Here's a chance to let everyone know the title of your favourite book to use and why. Let us know what is your reason for using the book. It helps us decide if that is book that could go in the resource library at CARE or maybe you want to splurge and buy it for yourself when you go to a conference.

ISBN: 0-201-67040-2. I like this book because it is filled with conversations using reduced English such as 'gotta' 'hafta' 'wanna' 'whaddya'. I use it near the end of a class for a change of pace. There are two sections to the lesson. The first is a conversation and comprehension questions. Then there is an expansion conversation along with a dictation. There are audio cassette tapes as well. If you use it just the one conversation and use the comprehension questions and some discussion, it usually only takes about 30 minutes. If I use the dictation portion, the whole part can take up to 60 minutes.
Hint: I have bought alot of my books on www.amazon.ca. The books are sometimes considerably cheaper than buying them through the Cambridge or Oxford publishing companies. I often will look at the books I would like at a conference and then check it out online. If the book is in stock through Amazon, I can get the book within a week and if the book is over $25, I get the shipping for free.

Heather handed me a lesson from this book one evening when I subbed for her L4 evening class; the chapter was on "shoulda/coulda/woulda". It was a fabulous extension on using and understanding modals in speech, and the students loved it. So did I! ~A.W.

I still love Zero Prep For Beginners. It's a book of activities and procedures that are tested and successful with beginners. I love the way it is organized and the simplicity of the instructions for the tasks. Naturally the title catches any time-crunched teacher and reels her/him in. In the long run it hasn't been the no-prep element as much as it's been the success of the activities has kept me going back for more. CARE has a copy.
